About TechWorks!

The Center for Technology & Innovation is an all-volunteer non-profit organization registered with the IRS & NYS Charities Bureau since 1996.

Development of TechWorks! is a Center initiative to showcase central New York State technology in action — an effort that begins from the inside out.  Significant progress is being made collecting and restoring icons of 20th & 21st century U.S. technology from Central New York State. Highlights include the IBM Computing Center with one of four operational IBM 1401s world-wide and a System 360 printer for visitors to create pre-digital Selfies and banner prints in their own words. Plus the Flight Simulation Workshop — including subset of the Apollo Lunar Module Simulator, on long-term restoration and display loan from the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, and three generations of Link Pilot Trainers - 1930s Blue Box, 1960s General Aviation Trainer (GAT-1) and 1990s Super GAT-1, whose return to operation earned the flight simulation team the 2018 Tony Sale Award from Google UK and the Computer Conservation Society. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-46222826

TechWorks! workshops and warehouse are located in the former Binghamton Ice Cream Company factory, built in 1912 on the waterfront in downtown Binghamton, at 321 Water Street, Binghamton, two blocks north of the Lost Dog Cafe and Doubletree Hilton Hotel, and just north of two historic railroad trestles. Look for the colorful flood wall mural — Four Seasons Along the Chenango River -- by JoAnne Arnold (2015).

TechWorks! next phase is development of visitor galleries readily accessible by foot and public transporation to community teens, Binghamton University and SUNY Broome students, and out of town visitors. Exploration for a suitable downtown location for next gen TechWorks! is underway.

Museums grow along a variety of paths
