2023 Tour de Sol National Champions
Coached by Chuck Goodwin, the Union Endicott High School team wit h its Electro car donated by NYSEG earned the 2003 Tour de Sol National Championship - a prize won four years before by MIT.
What started as a half-broken 1994 Chevrolet Geo buried under layers of dust became the foundation for winning three awards at theNortheast Sustainable Association (NESEA) 2003 Tour de Sol competition.
Inspired by the original Tour de Sol in Switzerland (1985 to 1993), the American Tour de Sol (1989-2006) shared similar goals in developing alternate energy sources. While the Swiss Tour de Sol was the trailblazer in demonstrating the viability of solar-electric vehicles, the American Tour de Sol adapted the model for US audiences and expanded into broader clean-energy vehicle exhibitions and competitions.
